X-Men ’97 creator removed from Marvel Over Gay Pride fan art

Beau DeMayo himself revealed this in a message shared on social media. Marvel’s response was immediate.

Five months after being fired from Marvel Studios, Bo Dimayocreator of the hit animated series 10th of Men ’97revealed in a message shared on his social media profiles that his name has been removed from the credits for the upcoming second season after posting X-Men-themed fan art in honor of Gay Pride Month.

“On June 13, Marvel sent me a letter informing me that they had removed my name from the Season 2 credits due to the post,” DeMayo wrote in a letter accompanied by the same previously published illustration. “Unfortunately, this is the latest in a troubling pattern that I have fallen victim to while working on 10th of Men ’97 and [al film a lungo rimandato, con protagonista Mahershala Ali] Blades. I’ll have more to say soon, but I need to step back from social media to find a safer space to be clear, proud, and obsessed.”

In response, Marvel issued the following statement via: Hollywood Reporter“Mr. DeMayo’s employment was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation. Given the egregious nature of the findings, we have effectively severed ties with him and he has no further affiliation with Marvel,” the statement said. Sources indicate that the former showrunner is under investigation for alleged sexual misconduct. Delivery dateMeanwhile, he reveals that his name being removed from the credits of the second season was due to “violations of the separation agreement between the parties.”

The ’90s hit, which is now up for an Emmy nomination for best animated program, benefited from DeMayo’s work on its first two seasons, until last March, just days before the series debuted on the platform, and he was not the showrunner. It was fired for reasons that were not immediately clear. DeMayo was supposed to attend press interviews and the Hollywood premiere, but relations fell apart a few days ago when his work email was deactivated and the cast and crew were informed that he was no longer part of the project.
