Beating Valdaño 3-1 in the quarter-finals at home
Roller Matera confirms itself as Italian champion, adding another championship to its trophy cabinet. The team, led by Valerio Antiza, achieved its second title in a row after an exceptional year that began by winning the Super Cup and continued by winning the Italian Cup last January. In the last match of the quarter-finals, played at home against Valdaño of Vicenza, Roller Matera won 3 to 1. The match was more competitive than expected, with Roller Matera dominating the match from the start. Captain Pamela Lapolla led the attacking maneuvers, while Berta Tarida and Rebecca Tacardi tried to open the scoring, but they faced resistance from goalkeeper Teresa Parlato. Francesca Manero broke the balance with a direct shot from outside the penalty area.
Despite the constant pressure, Matera found it difficult to double the score due to the excellent performance of Venice goalkeeper Gioria Menegiello. In the second half, the scenario remained the same, with Matera in attack and Maneiro still dangerous. The second goal came thanks to an exchange between the two teams, with regular season top scorer Rebecca Tacardi hitting the net. Lapolla’s foul earned Valdaño a penalty, but Elisabetta Lorenzato missed the shot and the rebound. Matera’s only defensive error allowed Laura Robiga to reduce the deficit two minutes from time. However, a counter-attack from Tacardi made it 3-1, much to the delight of the fans and players on the pitch.
