Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will travel to Gaza. This was announced by Abbas himself while speaking in Ankara at a special session of the Turkish parliament. In a speech that was praised by Turkish parliamentarians, he said: “I have decided to go to Gaza with other brothers in the Palestinian leadership.”
Meanwhile, negotiations on a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of the hostages have begun in Doha. A US delegation is in Qatar, including CIA Director Bill Burns, while the Israeli delegation is joined by Mossad chief David Barnea. Senior Egyptian officials are also attending. The talks are being hosted by Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and will last for two days. Hamas will not participate in the negotiations. The group has said it will not send a representative to protest what it calls Israel’s failure to abide by the negotiations under a ceasefire proposal reached on July 2.
