Everything is ready for the 9th Indra Mercury Cup. The international hockey event returns once again this year, organized by Cv Skating and this year with the valuable contribution of the Municipality of Civitavecchia. This event is dedicated to Indra Mercury, a young athlete from Civitavecchia who tragically died in a car accident on December 28, 2008.
New to this year’s edition is the women’s part: in addition to the 12 men’s teams, 4 women’s teams will also compete for the trophy presented by CV Skating and the Mercuri family. Two foreign teams, both from Slovenia: the 2023 Indra Mercury Cup title holders, Dolinjske Toplice, and AK Zirafi.
“The Indra Mercury Cup is a matter of the heart – explains President Riccardo Valentini – because our love for our companion Indra, despite the years that have passed, remains indelible. There are so many people who loved this boy and his wonderful family and it is nice to remember him with this event that combines competitive sport, even at a high level, and friendship off the pitch. Past editions have always been successful, thanks to the friendship and cordiality of our guests, and the fact that so many teams have decided to return several times over the years is the best sign of how much they have enjoyed their time.
We thank the Municipality of Civitavecchia who funded this event and everyone who helped CV Skating organize events of this level.”
The first match will take place on Friday 12 July at 11am, followed by non-stop hockey until Sunday afternoon, when the final will take place (3.30pm for women, 4.30pm for men) followed by an awards ceremony at the end of the tournament.
