Football – Asola, here we are: Excellence is closer than ever

tab There is little left, very little. We are on the razor’s edge. Asola has managed to fulfill a dream that seemed unattainable a few weeks ago, that of returning to the Eccellenza. Thanks to a very small number of defections in the highest regional category, more places are free than expected, and the red and white team, despite not being able to reach the third round of the playoffs (they were in fact defeated by Celatica in a very tough-fight match), and starting from tenth place in the replay classification (normally, with this classification, there is no hope, unless you face great sacrifices from those who came before you), are one step away from the category that has been missing for exactly ten seasons. That was in the 2014/15 season when the sons of the shepherd Toso were relegated to the second division after a less exciting championship, with only 18 points in their account. But the previous season they had saved themselves and made honour for themselves.
The situation in detail is as follows: the merger of Rovato, Vertovese, Bedizzolese and Vighenzi has effectively freed up two places. Even in D there is a very real hope that Ciliverghe and Crema can be brought back to the fourth series. Today the sixth and seventh places in the standings have been officially chosen, namely Cologne and Casati Arcore. Cili and Crema will allow the eighth and ninth to be brought back, Albinogandino and Cedriano. There will only be one place missing, and the shaky situation of Legnano has made the inhabitants of Asolo raise their antennas.
Of course, it may be necessary to make some adjustments to the team, given the fierce competition, even if the red and white team has not made any plans at the moment. It is clear that the goals will also change: from a major championship to a championship based on the struggle for survival, as expected.
These are days of waiting: Pastor Toso, director Sandrini and Mr. Franzini are waiting for news from the Commission. This jump in the category could reach what could be described as exciting would be an understatement: the province of Mantua will have a third representative after Castiglione and Castellana.
