“Today it is difficult to predict. From the market movements that have taken place I expect a great balance. Mantova certainly has what it takes to be last year’s Petrarca, but other teams like Altamarca, Pordenone, Macan Prata and newly promoted Olimpia Rovereto are having an excellent signing campaign.”
Leko is coming off a season in which he won the Division Cup, missed out on the Under-19s league title and missed out on the play-offs with the first team by just one point. What are the goals for this year?
“Unfortunately, we missed the target last year with our worst start ever. We start this year with the ambition to do our best by giving space to many of our kids. We will try to be the loose cannon of the group with a very young team, considering that we will only have captain Harting and Gina over 23.”
Young but not to be underestimated…
“Absolutely not, because if they confirm the qualities that allowed them to arrive at Lecco, we will have a great year. They are young, but they are certainly strong and some of them already have a lot of experience despite their age. Many of them are already ours, others could become ours depending on how things go.”
Leco has been very renewed. Why after a more than positive season?
“Because the feelings we had last year were unique and showed that our way of working with young people is successful. Today we are recognized by everyone as one of the companies in Italy that works best in this sense and if someone has a valuable young player to develop they do not hesitate to offer him to us, so we decided to focus more on this. Special by rejuvenating the team. That is also why we did not replace an element like Espindola, or rather to give more space to Tortorella, the 2002 who will then be able to show his full value.”
Can we dream of repeating in the division cup?
“Winning is never easy, but we set out to try and the Cup is one of our goals again this year. We will also be able to count on many talented players from 2006 who will surely take us to the top again at Under-19 level, with the aim of playing for the Scudetto as happened last year.”
