Away from halogen lamps, a room for LEDs: €210,000 “relighting” of the Palazzo Farnese

Palazzo Farnese gets new exterior lights: The Municipality of Piacenza has in fact approved the executive project prepared by Costel for the energy efficiency works of Palazzo Farnese, which will consist in particular of the renovation of the exterior lighting with the replacement of the current halogen lamps with LED ones. Intervention by 210 thousand eurosfully covered by the Pnrr contribution attributed to the Municipality of Piacenza in 2020 by Decree of the President of the Department of Internal and Territorial Affairs of the Ministry of the Interior and dedicated to public works in the field of energy efficiency and sustainable territorial development. By approving the documents, Palazzo Mercanti has instructed the Tenders and Contracts Department to proceed with the start of the award procedures by September 15, 2024. The works must be completed, according to the schedule, by mid-November 2024.

The project, as indicated by the tender specifications, concerns the energy efficiency of the architectural lighting system of Palazzo Farnese by replacing all the existing lighting fixtures (metal halides) with more energy efficient LED luminaires. The aim of the works will be to make the various sectors of the existing public lighting more efficient in order to guarantee better lighting by significantly reducing electricity consumption, to illuminate areas with high quality such as ensuring visual comfort, reducing annoying glare and reducing light pollution in accordance with regional legislation against light pollution and cameras, and to provide the municipal administration with a system capable of modifying the lighting and creating visual and/or colour effects as needed. The project includes the lighting of the facades with LED lighting fixtures of different types to enhance the most representative characteristics of the building.

On the front Viale Risorgimento RGBW lighting fixtures, i.e. lighting fixtures composed of single-color LEDs in red, green and blue, and in this case white LEDs, will be used to create different lighting effects and atmospheres based on needs. The document states that the colored lights will be used exclusively for annual or institutional events, limited to the period in question, in order not to permanently alter the perception of the building – of extraordinary architectural significance – and the surrounding urban context. In fact, this lighting should only be considered of an exceptional nature, otherwise it would be incompatible with property protection requests. Facade via batiucci It will be partly illuminated by spotlights installed on the roof of the Mazzini School and partly by spotlights installed under the main entrance bridge. The other facades will be illuminated by luminaires composed of white LEDs with a colour temperature of 3000 K and dynamic white with a colour temperature between 2200 K and 4000 K. The entrances will also be illuminated by wall-mounted projectors.
