Since 2015, hundreds of people have confirmed their participation in an event that represents a real pilgrimage. For ten years, it has been organized, with great spontaneity and participation, on Via Giovanni Conti in the place made famous by Carlo Verdone in the film “Un Sacco Bello”.

There is a yellow sign hanging on a tree trunk that says “Danger of Death”. For many years, it has replaced the edifice through which Enzo, the forced character played by Carlo Verdone, first meets Sergio and then “Martucci Ennio”. The film, for the few who have not seen it, was “Un Sacco Bello”: Carlo Verdone’s directorial debut.

Verdoni’s return to the scene

Since 2015, many fans of the Romanian actor have been going to the “Death Pole”, which, keeping a promise to its enthusiastic audience, returned to the place on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the film’s release. He did so for an event organized with the then mayor Giovanni Codò and with the late actor Renato Scarpa who played Sergio in the film: the friend with whom he embarked on the journey that began from the “death pole” and was to continue to Krakow.

The painting and the events of mid-August 10 years

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the film, and therefore also the return of Carlo Verdone, a plaque has been placed in Via Giovanni Conti. “Here where the scene of the ‘death stake’ was immortalized, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the film” reads “The Third Municipality of Rome was suspended on July 24, 2020”. Since then, 4 candles have passed, and there are 10 candles to be extinguished for those who, starting at 7.00 am on August 15, intend to meet to pay tribute to the event made by Gianluca Bonetti, founder of the community “The Colossi of Comedy”, created in 2015. More than 200 people have already registered for the event on the Facebook page.

Then everyone, “pens and nylon stockings in hand,” sets off on a journey with a forced itinerary: “At 5:30 we’re in Bolzano, 9 a.m. in Krakow, and at 10 p.m. you bet you’re already doing it…”
