Marco Bellocchio’s “Marx Can Wait” is Nastri d’Argento’s 2022 Film of the Year. Italian Film Journalists (SNGCI), who will be handing out the awards in Rome, announced it at the Maxxi National Museum of the 21st Century Arts next Monday, June 20.
A decision that includes among the most interesting and exciting cinematic titles of this year the highly personal journey in the family memory of an author who with this film adds to the nostalgia of the painful story of collective feelings and above all intimacy.
A very dangerous mourning situation becomes, in fact, in the film a reflection on life and death in an investigation that deals with unresolved feelings and finally reveals with apparent sincerity in the face of a tragic event living within the walls of the family home that we both did not encounter: the suicide of Camilo, Marco’s twin brother, who He passed away on December 27 of a hectic year and big changes like 1968.
“Marx can wait to leave a special mark in the history of cinema at this time that changed our lives,” explains Laura Delle Colley, SNGCI National Chair. “That is why we chose it among the films, and not closed it, even among the distinguished, only in the world and in the ‘category’ of the most touching and vivid realistic cinema.”
The film is produced by Kavac Film, Ibc Movie and Tender Stories with Rai Cinema in collaboration with Fondazione Cineteca Bologna.
Produced in collaboration with Lazio Region-Fondo per il Cinema e l’Audiovisivo, produced by Simone Gattoni and Beppe Caschetto, co-produced by Malcom Pagani and Moreno Zani, executive producers Michel Merkt and Alessio Lazzareschi and distributed by 01 Distribution. It was selected at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021 which celebrates Marco Bellocchio with the Palme d’Or.
