Voice of Hockey joins the National LGBT Forum

Posted by

Scottish Hockey joins the National LGBTI Sports Group to champion equality within sport in Scotland alongside the Scottish governing bodies for sport.

National Gay Sports Group, coordinated by Leap Sport Scotland, is a national group that exists to obtain a strategic overview of LGBT equality issues within sport in Scotland. Created in accordance with the recommendations of the Out for Sport report, the group recognizes that people from the LGBTI community face particular issues that prevent them from equal access and participation in sport; And that homophobia in sports causes significant barriers and inequality in sports.

LEAP Sports Scotland works to increase the inclusion of LGBTI people in sport and against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in the sporting context. We are committed to breaking down the structural, social and personal barriers that prevent lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people across the country from accessing, participating and excelling in Scottish sports.

The group is committed to the full inclusion of LGBTI people in sport and physical activity and tackling homophobia in sport. Scottish Hockey, which is entering the construction phase of its ambitious four-year strategic plan, has integrated equality, diversity and inclusion throughout its strategy and is proactively seeking true inclusivity within the sport.

We have a vision to be the most inclusive sport in Scotland. In hockey, we already have a fantastic gender party, and being elected to this forum allows us to ensure that people from the LGBTI community have the opportunity to participate and enjoy sport, especially the fun family sport of hockey. This platform will allow us to influence policy and strategic matters across ScotlandBarry pointed out Kutichief executive officer

Having successfully applied to join the group, Scottish Hockey is one of five Sport Governing Bodies (SGBs) and is delighted to add its voice, while representing that of its fellow SGBs, to the national narrative.
