On Monday, a two-story house, similar to those usually found in American cities, was erected. It was withdrawn Out to sea for several kilometers across San Francisco Bay. The sight of an ordinary-looking house in the middle of the water attracted the attention of area residents. Transporting the houseboat is not unusual in itself, but the distance traveled was significant: about 50 kilometers, from the southern to the northern part of the bay.
The house started at Docktown Marina, in Redwood City, in Silicon Valley, just south of San Francisco, where until recently there was a large boating community. The move stems from a legal dispute: In fact, a local attorney has filed a lawsuit against the city, claiming that the houseboat group violated the law because it blocked traffic on a state navigable canal. The city agreed to move the homes, paying the owners a fee for the relocation. The US Coast Guard accompanied the house on the way.
In San Francisco, a city famous among other things for its extremely high house prices, it also happens that existing houses are moved: it happened relatively frequently in the 1960s and 1970s, and it also happened once in 2021.
