The return of the magic of Plants Day –
Tomorrow, May 18, the sixth edition of World Plant Magic Day (Fopd) 2022 will be celebrated, born under the auspices of the European Plant Science Organization (EPSO), an event involving scientists and research institutes from all over the world – engaged in the study of plants.
The goal of this anniversary is to attract as many people as possible from all over the world to plants and from the entire plant world, and to stimulate interest and enthusiasm for plant science, agriculture, the sustainable production of nutritious foods, as well as for horticulture, forestry, plant production and also for non-food but plant-derived products, such as paper Wood, chemicals, energy and pharmaceuticals.
Until May 22, young people, schools and the entire world of production and research that revolves around plants are invited to celebrate this important day. In previous editions, many botanical institutions, universities, schools, gardens and botanical museums, together with farmers and industry, opened their doors on the day of the magic of plants.
In this regard, there is a real archive of previous editions that can be consulted in “FoPD Success Stories”. To participate and contribute to this initiative, not only scientists, but also media and politics are invited to raise awareness and discuss the latest cutting-edge research and discoveries in plant sciences, and to explore new applications that plant science plants can offer.
The Magic of Plants Day will be accompanied by a series of events in public spaces, theatres, cafes, central squares and parks designed to make everyone understand the importance of plants. Particular attention is paid to young children: there are guided tours of schools among the plants that feed and care for us and observe the plants that make flowers; Thematic tracks for students who commit to nutrition education projects promoted by Coldiretti, honey supply chain seminars, nutritional knowledge workshops, and informative botanical walks.
The event also wants, in accordance with the intentions of the organizers, to be a catalyst for the organization of fun activities related to plants and events that can be organized throughout the month of May. The advice is also inspired by previous events with success stories of 2019, and above all follow all the events on social media: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and on the FoPD website.
Epso currently represents 70 institutional members bringing together more than 200 research institutes, departments and universities from 31 countries in Europe and beyond. Its mission is to improve the influence and visibility of plant sciences in Europe. Coordinating research activities at the national and European level, as well as facilitating the understanding of plant sciences.
