Aeroporti di Roma, the operator of Rome Fiumicino and Ciampino airports, and LVenture Group, a listed Venture Capital holding company and one of the major startup accelerators at the European level, have signed a collaboration to create a pilot (proof of concept) program that will be developed in the first innovation center At the airport in Italy, which will open at the beginning of 2022 at Leonardo da Vinci in Fiumicino, with an area of 650 square meters in Terminal 1.

The objective of the Proof of Concept (PoC) is to create a co-creation process between selected startups and ADR to test their innovative products and services within the airport ecosystem. Startups will have access to ADR assets and resources, which will support testing solutions, achieving goals and developing a synergistic relationship between startups and the company’s business units.

The LVenture Group will manage the piloting process, providing startups with their methodology and knowledge in upstream project development, building on a proven track record of more than 120 accelerating startups.
The route consists of two phases: preparation and delivery.

The preparation phase, which lasts one month, consists of identifying all aspects of individual Proof of Stake points, from presenting relevant stakeholders, to displaying the assets that ADR has enabled and ways to use them. ADR experts will provide the knowledge needed to support startups in the design phase. This will be followed by the delivery phase, about four intense months of PoC development, during which the typical methodologies for the LVenture Gorup acceleration programs will be adopted.

All start-ups with innovative solutions in the six challenges identified by ADR can participate in this program: improving flight punctuality and increasing airport capacity; “Data-driven” systems for real-time planning and management of terminal and airside areas; reduce energy consumption or increase energy from renewable sources; “Digital Passenger Experience”, digital passenger services that enrich their experience; Automation of processes or controls within the airport; “Multi-channel commerce”, customized offers that can be purchased not only at the point of sale.
“Together with the LVenture Group – commented Emmanuel Cala, Vice President of Innovation and Quality at Aeroporti di Roma – we are entering the operational phase of the Open Innovation strategy, based on the desire to create an ecosystem of collaboration to achieve the goals of the energy transformation and

Digital for Fiumicino and Ciampino airports. Today we are ready to engage startups by investing in their ideas within the Fiumicino Incubation HUB not only in economic terms but above all in terms of knowledge and skills, promoting and encouraging the development and growth of new companies and entrepreneurs, generating a phenomenon of pollution that benefits the entire national airport system” .
“We are proud to collaborate with Aeroporti di Roma in realizing their open innovation strategy,” said Antonella Zullo, Head of Open Innovation at the LVenture Group – giving us our expertise in developing upstream start-ups and in creating and managing hubs, physical platforms that increase from pollution rate and functional to its growth. Innovative solutions for startups will play a key role in transforming infrastructures in the service of the passenger experience and sustainability, among the major challenges of the future.”
