No. 18 Cornell earns two weekly field hockey awards

Princeton, New Jersey – After posting a 2-0 record that included a massive 2-1 overtime win over No. 13 Syracuse, the nation’s 18th-ranked Cornell Big Red swept the Ivy League Weekly Field Hockey Awards. Caroline Ramsey was named Offensive Player of the Week while Martha Broderick earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Offensive Player of the Week
caroline ramsey, Cornell (Sr., D/M – Morristown, NJ)

  • He had two goals and an assist in a 2-0 week for the Big Red, becoming Cornell’s all-time leading scorer in a single season.
  • Both scored Cornell’s tally in a 2-0 win over Penn on Friday
  • He assisted on the opening goal against No. 13 Syracuse and consistently pressed penalties throughout the entire game

Defensive Player of the Week
martha broderick, Cornell (father, goalkeeper – Bury St Edmunds, England)

  • They were 2-0 in the cage with wins over Penn and nationally ranked Syracuse, posting a 0.46 goals-against average and an .833 save percentage.
  • She was impressive in the win over Syracuse with five saves, including two on the penalty kill against Orange All-American Efke van den Nieuwenhove, who entered the contest 7-for-7 on the penalty kill for her career.
  • The second penalty kill came with just 70 seconds left in regulation to allow the Big Red to reach overtime. He also successfully defended two penalty kick attempts in the first overtime
