Teams were selected based on standings after the end of the IHL regular season, so the top seven teams were able to select a reference opponent for the round of 16. Third in the IHL is Varese, who has tipped Chiavina to challenge Lombardi in full, while Appiano Bini, the IHL Premier Division champion, has chosen as his challenger. Instead, Fiemme wants to play against Aosta Ares Sport, the leaders of the IHL First Division, so in Como, only Valpelles is left for the final round of 16 of the final.

The tournament system includes the round of 16 and the quarter-finals. As mentioned, we will start on Wednesday 27 December at the home of the team in the worst position in the standings (or in any case in the IHL Division 1) before the return leg on Saturday 30 December when the track factor is up to the opposition.

The first leg can also end in a draw, so any extra time (5 vs 5 lasting 20 minutes, with sudden death) will only be played in the second leg. If a team wins both matches, or draws the first and wins the second, it moves forward. There is no goal difference, so if the two rivals win the two legs respectively, extra time will take place before any penalty kicks.

In the quarter-finals (January 11 and 16), as on the regular scoreboard, Round of 16 winner No. 1 will meet Round of 16 winner No. 8, then No. 2 will go to No. 7 and so on until the four teams that reach the final are eliminated. The fourth is in Varese.
