Ice Hockey League, Bolzano in Salzburg for the second final

The last series of the ICE Hockey League is moving to Salzburg: EC Red Bull Salzburg and HCB Südtirol Alperia will play the second match of the Best of-7 series in Eisarena. Bolzano went 1-0 up, thanks to a flawless performance from defense and goalkeeper Sam Harvey, who grabbed the two-game winning streak in Thursday’s debut.

HCB Südtirol Alperia defended their home edge in a best-of-7 final series against EC Red Bull Salzburg on Thursday. A 1–0 home win in the opening match put the series ahead for South Tyrol. Also in previous comparisons, in the 2014 and 2018 finals, the “Foxes” won the first match and subsequently secured the title.

Crucial to HCB’s victory was Sam Harvey’s outstanding defensive performance: Bolzano defended aggressively as a collegiate, blocking shots and acting physically. Harvey made 18 saves, kept a clean sheet, and secured his second shutout of the postseason. Overall, this was the eighth match of this qualifier in which no team conceded a goal.

Since the league’s inception in 2000, 11 post-season games have been won 1-0. Salzburg participated four times, and lost to the defending champions three times. Bolzano won 1-0, losing their first match of 2017 against Vienna.

Out of 17 completed playoff series, HCB Südtirol Alperia, who had to play without Dustin Gazeley in Game 1 due to illness, won all of those who were ahead. EC Red Bull Salzburg, on the other hand, managed to turn 13 series in their favor despite falling behind. Gazelle is on his way to Race 2, and the decision will be made after his morning skiing.
