Bra: The newly renovated hockey stadium named after Dr. Giuseppe “Pino” Palmieri

On Sunday June 26, 2022, at the end of the Italian Hockey League Final, the renovated Synthetic Stadium in “A. Lorenzoni” in viale Madonna dei Fiori in Brazil was officially inaugurated. A modern facility at a cost of about 200 thousand euros, of which 100 thousand euros are financed by the municipality and the remaining 150 thousand euros from the National Federation.

The structure is named after Dr. Giuseppe Palmieri, better known as Pino, died prematurely at the age of 74 last February. During the ceremony, the plaque celebrating the event was discovered.

“We wanted to name the domain after Dr. Palmieri because for many years he was a reference figure in the hockey game Brady’s. In addition to being a great athlete, Pino was so much more: an attentive general practitioner, a volunteer man and a person who is always very helpful, really tireless”, explains Mayor Gianni Fogliato, who adds: “Palmeri commits us over time to always consider sport as an important medium for education, integration and promotion of the city as well as competition.”

“Thanks to this investment”, explained public works consultants Luciano Mesa and sports Daniel DiMaria, “Bra has become the only Italian city that has two regulatory areas and is therefore able to host international competitions.”

Palmieri moved to Bra in the 1960s spurred on by his passion for hockey, which was a very good player at the time. After a glorious past in the field, he became the head of HC Bra, a position he held until his appearance. He also served as Vice President of the Italian Hockey Federation.

A general practitioner and occupational expert, Palmieri was a former health officer for Piedmont District 64 and a former medical assistant for the state railroad. He was the occupational physician of the municipality of Bra and put his human and professional skills at the disposal of the local Red Cross, of which he was president. (Allah)
