L’AQUILA “Terra d’Abruzzo” is the name of the area signed by the pianist, poet and composer Greta Margaret Cipriani.

The piece is composed for soprano or tenor and piano and will premiere in April at a concert in the auditorium of St. Elizabeth Catholic High School in Toronto. Cipriani has been invited to play in a series of concerts with soprano Bianca D’Amore and actor Donato Angelosante.

The piece, for which the author wrote the text and music, was accompanied by soprano Bianca D’Amore on piano and Donato Angelosante played the finale.

Let’s go deeper into the piece: “I wanted to write a piece for my land, for people who carry both suffering and dignity from the past.” In this passage with an enormous expressive charge, Cipriani wants to celebrate his relationship with the land thanks to an osmotic synergy with nature, which contrasts with the land from the hardness of the mountains to the softness of the coastal area, qualities that are reflected in the character of those who live there. A land where the heights are “spiritual” heights, the rugged earth sometimes offers unexpected visions of sublime bliss. A land often conquered, but proud, noble, proud. A land where the footprints of ancestral farmers are a symbol of memory. A forerunner of the great writers’ thought. A history of poverty, struggles and sacrifices offers priceless beauty, natural and architectural treasures that are not always so heralded, but often a symbol of considerable strength.

And the primordial nature of a lineage, if “green as the mountain pastures of the wild Adriatic” (D’Annunzio) warm and hospitable, wild but dignified, dangerous, willing to work. Modernity laughs, never forgetting its roots. Cipriani’s writing takes the Romantic operatic tradition, weaving it with personal flair, combined with his own intimate vision of musical and poetic action.

Greta, pianist, composer, poet, singer likes to experiment with different forms. Already a success at Tour Music Fest, he combines piano with electronic effects to showcase his musical talent in that regard. Here instead he returns to pure classicism in the beautiful melody and bel canto, writing a balanced and evocative poetic text where the absolute protagonist is “Earth”, the habitat of the ancient people of Abruzzo. A sacred and true creation, attached to the noble people of whom she is a daughter.
