The Enchanted Apple, the new reading area for children 0-6 years old

Here, young children, children of city toddler centers and kindergartens and their families will be able to appreciate the pleasure of reading in a fun and welcoming environment, choosing from fairy tales, interactive and tactile texts – for children up to one year old – crowded books – large volumes with illustrated pages only – and books Silent, picture-based sequence books to tell the story and stimulate speech, interpretation, and commentary.
The heart of the center is the pedagogical library which, with its 20,000 volumes of specialized literature and its rich press library, constitutes an important resource available to educational services in Turin for research, planning, self-updating and training. Since 2020, a section dedicated to children’s literature has been increased by about 1,500 titles with the accession to the national project “Born to Read”, and the library is the governing body. An important cooperation enriched by the long experience gained during more than thirty years of the activity of the national project.
The Enchanted Apple is an environment where girls and boys can independently explore the books available to them; Share the joy of reading with peers, parents, grandparents and educators. Moreover, mothers and fathers can expand their knowledge of the world of children’s literature and share the moment of reading in a designated and quiet place with their children.
The new space is designed to raise awareness, disseminate and promote early childhood reading, and its positive effects on children’s development and the relationship between adults and children, to enhance the pleasure of reading as an individual act and as a sharing with peers. . Local schools and young children’s centers, along with families through them, are getting involved to encourage shared reading even at home.

The project is being promoted by the Region of Piedmont and the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation.
