2.8 million for the strike against pension reform

Two more days of protests were announced on 7 and 11 February. The government wants to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64


This number exceeds the one million people who participated in the first round of protests on January 19.

A war on numbers

According to data released by the Confederation generale du travail (CGT), 500,000 demonstrated in Paris. For its part, the police reported 1.272 million protesters, including 87,000 in the capital. On the day before the mobilization, 19 January, the unions reported more than two million demonstrators, while the authorities counted one million.

The social partners have already announced new moves, on February 7 and 11, to urge the government to back down from a reform that plans to raise the retirement age, from 62 to 64.
